see you

Off to NY to see an "A" gallery I'd love to be in, wish me luck. Just to remind you I have my book available now at the top of my links you can buy it via pay pal. I wanted to post a travel themed painting but that's not dry, so this little one will have to do.-------->>>

Laguna Rocks part 1

Went to Laguna a few weeks ago to Laguna with pal Richard for a Ray Roberts class. Ray was sick so we decided to paint anyway, all are 6x8 on linen a week later I re- painted all of these over( not shown) in the studio. Of the the new versions ( that I've posted 2) In my opinion one is better for it, one is just different and one is worse, but you can decide. These are scans of the originals that I did outside. They no longer exist as I painted over them. Now they are the studio versions.

Camper

Here is a camper briefly stopping at the corner of Victory and Olive in Burbank. It had a seventies feel to it so I kind of painted it with that same feel. I'm on the fence with the low contrast for the light effect and wonder it I should make it tighter with more darks...

Ladies Room 5am

before

after
Here is the ladies room at Sierra Madre park next to a baseball diamond. Not to many customers at 5am but I still felt a twinge of guilt. I would have gone into the mens, but it's light was off. I have two versions posted as you can see there was a tangent in my first version so I fixed it in the second and made other tiny adjustments.

Rebar

Rebar

9x12 oil on linen

Here is a truck loaded with Rebar parked next to a bunch of boxcars on the Lincoln Heights side of the LA River. The reference was over exposed and I played that up in the painting. I’m not sure how often they move the train cars in and out, they have a look of temporary storage gone long term. I've ben remiss on answering notes and visiting fellow blogers. That's going to change as I'm not going to spend any more time at a certain art website.

Airship 12x16 oil on Canvas

Some times they get away from you.

I did this painting based on a blurry old old Black and White photo. I brought it to this stage ( this versaion is gone, it's now painted over and damaged) then decided I wasn't' happy with it. I reworked it and made it worse. Then I forgot and left it outside in the rain ruining the thing... You can't win them all.

Sardines for lunch

9x12 oil on linen

A week or two ago Sharon came up to my studio and announced she had a still life for me. She had bought fresh sardines at the farmers market that morning and fried them up for lunch. While she fried I painted their remains. They tasted very good and were a tasty treat to paint.
